Okay I admit it - I really like Wordpress!

Namaste and Hello!

Karma Web Designs

It has been a while since I last blogged...sorry, life and work have gotten in the way!

As you may know, we love working with Joomla. It is a wonderful CMS (Content Management System) that helps you create incredibly looking Web sites. ...Well, more and more we have also been working with Wordpress sites. Of course, we have been using Wordpress sites and building custom Wordpress sites for years, but only recently have I really thought Wordpress has taken a strong design leap.

The problem with Wordpress in the past has always been - one look at it, and yup that's a Wordpress site. But more and more now the designs have become much more interesting and less Wordpressy (if I may make up a word!). And that has made me happy. However, there is an important note: not all Wordpress sites and themes are created equal. There are literally tens of thousands of WP themes out there, and many of them are quite ugly! The trick is picking the right one that is perfect for the client and then having the talent to add, mold, manipulate, and change it around so it truly becomes an individual site for your client.

We of course have the talent at not only picking the right theme, but the ability to custom it to your specific liking.

And so Joomla vs. Wordpress? Joomla sites tend to look a bit more grand and often more interesting...but I think Wordpress is catching up. Wordpress on the other hand tends to be much more user friendly, not only to the designers and programmers, but also to the clients who want to take over after the site is being built as their own webmasters. Also, I really like the fact that if you are using Wordpress and want a plugin or want to add something that your site doesn't already have loaded, you are almost guarenteed to have a free one already available for download. Joomla - not so much. And for Joomla, you are almost always having to pay more, much more. And so although I still love Joomla for its look and feel, more and more I'm liking Wordpress.
